Which Way Should Your Casement Windows Open?

You need to make many decisions when planning a home window replacement, from style and color to how the units will operate. Casement windows are one of today’s most popular window styles. These windows feature a unique pivot operation, allowing it to be installed in the most complicated spaces. However, before having them installed, you need to decide which way you want them to open.

Which Way Should Your Casement Windows Open?

Here are tips to help you choose which direction your casements should open.

Understand How Casements Operate

Knowing how your new windows will operate can help you determine which is best for your needs. Casement windows can either have a left-hand crank or a right-hand crank. A casement window with the crank on the right and the lock on the left will open from the left to right. On the other hand, a unit with the crank placed on the left and lock on the right will operate from right to left.

Which Is Your Dominant Hand?

Before having casement replacement windows installed, consider your dominant hand. It will be easier to open your windows if the crank is on the side of your dominant hand.

Consider How the Windows Will Look

Casement windows look great when the hinged part of the unit is near the center of the room. This will make all casement windows open towards the middle of the space. Also, casements are one of the most beautiful window styles so make sure to have them installed in the right locations in your home.

Don’t Forget About Ventilation

Have sufficient cross ventilation at home by installing casement windows on different sides of the house that open in opposite directions. Doing so will allow air to flow freely around your home. With sufficient ventilation, you can avoid humidity problems at home and even save on energy costs.

"I just bought my first house. My patio sliding door was rotten. So, I needed it to replace it. Renewal by Anderson of Southern Missouri listened to what I wanted and delivered it. They did a fantastic job of installing and cleaning up afterwards. They did it even in freezing rain that day I was scheduled to have it replaced. They even had a follow-up to check things out and do the touch ups. I'm amazed at there work. Great job Renewal by Anderson."

"On Feb 1,2024 my husband and I selected Renewel by Andersen for windows for our entire house. It made our house more beautiful with the picture windows. Made the outside more attractive, and on the inside. We did 14 windows. We had 4 men come to do the job in 1 day And they were very friendly, efficient, fast and cleaned up inside and outside perfectly. And most importantly we noticed the heating furnace runs less, therefore saving us money on our gas bill. We live in SW Missouri. We recommend anyone who wants to replace windows in their home to pick Renewal by Andersen. Sincerely, Darius and Nancy Durman"
