How to Manage the Mess During Window Replacement

Any home improvement project requires you to deal with a certain amount of mess, and this includes window replacement. Swapping out your old window means that you have to prepare for the dust and dirt, which would likely result from the ongoing work. The good thing, though, is that there are ways to minimize the potential mess.

How to Manage the Mess During Window Replacement

Here are some tips on how you can contain the mess during a window replacement job.

Plastic Wrap Coverings

You can use plastic wrap to cover the interior surfaces of your home and any large furniture that you can’t move to a safer area. This will prevent dust and dirt from settling on your shelves, couches and beds. Window contractors typically dispose of the plastic wraps at the end of each day or set them aside for disposal upon completion of the job. If you prefer one over the other, don’t hesitate to let your contractor know.

Drop Cloths

Drop cloths should be placed across your home so that only a minimal amount of dust and debris will land on your floor. The number of drop cloths needed usually depends on how many energy-efficient windows will be installed since the cloths are only spread in specific areas where the installation is happening. Much like the plastic wrap covers, these drop cloths can be disposed of at the end of each day or at the last day of the window replacement project.

Securing Your Belongings

If you can move certain items to another room or a storage area, go for it. This is probably the best way to keep your valuables safe and avoid risk of damage while work is ongoing. Your garage or basement could be a good place to store them away. But if these don’t have the space to accommodate your belongings, you can also opt to rent storage.

"I just bought my first house. My patio sliding door was rotten. So, I needed it to replace it. Renewal by Anderson of Southern Missouri listened to what I wanted and delivered it. They did a fantastic job of installing and cleaning up afterwards. They did it even in freezing rain that day I was scheduled to have it replaced. They even had a follow-up to check things out and do the touch ups. I'm amazed at there work. Great job Renewal by Anderson."

"On Feb 1,2024 my husband and I selected Renewel by Andersen for windows for our entire house. It made our house more beautiful with the picture windows. Made the outside more attractive, and on the inside. We did 14 windows. We had 4 men come to do the job in 1 day And they were very friendly, efficient, fast and cleaned up inside and outside perfectly. And most importantly we noticed the heating furnace runs less, therefore saving us money on our gas bill. We live in SW Missouri. We recommend anyone who wants to replace windows in their home to pick Renewal by Andersen. Sincerely, Darius and Nancy Durman"
