Tips on Preparing Your Home for a Window Replacement

Before starting with a window and door replacement project, you need to make sure your home is ready. Replacing your windows may cause disruptions for at least a day. However, with proper preparation, you can avoid issues during installation day.

Read on for tips on how to prepare your home for a window replacement.

Remove Furnishings Near the Windows

Any decor and furnishings surrounding the windows to be replaced must be removed, including curtains, wall art, rugs, and plants. This is so workers can work easily and faster. Moreover, these items must be kept in a place where they can stay safe and in good shape.

You should also remove outdoor furniture and anything hanging on the exterior walls. The installer may need to use ladders to work on your upstairs windows. Make sure that your window contractor has enough space to set up their equipment.

Cover Up Your Belongings

Installing your double hung replacement windows can create a lot of dust. Window installers usually place drop cloths to protect your home and belongings. To be sure the mess is minimal, you can place drop cloths on your floors and furniture. You may also discuss this matter with your contractor before installation it may be part of their service.

Plan for a Temporary Storage Space

You may not have enough storage space for your stuff if you’re replacing all windows in your home. Consider moving your things to your garage or basement or you may also rent a storage space. This step will help you ensure your belongings are in a safe place. Research your options and schedule delivery before the project starts to avoid delays.  For the best vinyl replacement windows, choose Renewal by Andersen® of Southwest Missouri. "Excellent service and product! They checked in with me every few weeks while we were waiting for the order. I was impressed with Sam, who measured my windows and headed the installation crew. He was respectful and patient with his team. They cleaned up after themselves. Before the new windows I had huge windows that didn’t open. Now I feel much safer and get better temperatures in those rooms."

"My experience with Anderson Renewal was amazing! From the first meeting with Miranda to choose my windows and doors to the installation provided by Tim and his crew was a pleasure! I just bought a home built in the 1960's that needed new windows and a new double front door with sidelights. As everyone knows Anderson Windows are great, but it was the people I interacted with from Anderson that made it such a great experience. It took three days for the windows and door to be installed and they "worked" every minute they were here. My huge front door took most of the day to install because they had to put in a new header and other improvements to make it fit! They even put up new drywall on the inside. Many people in the neighborhood have stopped by to comment on my beautiful front door! I think the crew left my house cleaner than it was before they started! Constantly cleaning up after themselves. I am thrilled with my windows and feel lucky to have met the team at Anderson."

"Very professional staff . No pressure sales. The job they do is neat and clean, no cleanup left for the owner. Communication is great. Always informed on the status of of your product, AND the tin of cookies you receive afterwards is a pleasant plus."
