Tips on Preparing Your Home for a Window Replacement

Before starting with a window and door replacement project, you need to make sure your home is ready. Replacing your windows may cause disruptions for at least a day. However, with proper preparation, you can avoid issues during installation day.

Read on for tips on how to prepare your home for a window replacement.

Remove Furnishings Near the Windows

Any decor and furnishings surrounding the windows to be replaced must be removed, including curtains, wall art, rugs, and plants. This is so workers can work easily and faster. Moreover, these items must be kept in a place where they can stay safe and in good shape.

You should also remove outdoor furniture and anything hanging on the exterior walls. The installer may need to use ladders to work on your upstairs windows. Make sure that your window contractor has enough space to set up their equipment.

Cover Up Your Belongings

Installing your double hung replacement windows can create a lot of dust. Window installers usually place drop cloths to protect your home and belongings. To be sure the mess is minimal, you can place drop cloths on your floors and furniture. You may also discuss this matter with your contractor before installation it may be part of their service.

Plan for a Temporary Storage Space

You may not have enough storage space for your stuff if you’re replacing all windows in your home. Consider moving your things to your garage or basement or you may also rent a storage space. This step will help you ensure your belongings are in a safe place. Research your options and schedule delivery before the project starts to avoid delays.  For the best vinyl replacement windows, choose Renewal by Andersen® of Southwest Missouri. "Their workers who installed the windows were excellent. Our experience with the sales rep was pleasant. He did not pressure us. He made suggestions that saved us money."

"I would give everyone involved in the whole process a 10 out of 10. With the exception of the window installation crew. They get an 11 out of 10. I can't express in words what an excellent job they did. They went above and beyond."

"Although it is a process and doesn't happen overnight the wait is worth the end results. A Representative will come to your home and walk you through the entire process. It does take a few weeks from the time they send someone to your home to personally measure your windows to the time the factory specifically custom cuts your windows and ships them out. However, the end result is overwhelmingly satisfactory. The crew sent to install them were professional, cleaned up after the job was completed and did the job in half the time they thought it would take. Highly recommend!"
