Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Windows

With spring approaching, many homeowners are already preparing their spring cleaning checklist. One important task that you should include in your home maintenance list is window cleaning. Grime, dust, dirt and other debris may have found their way onto your windows over the cold months.

Here are tips for cleaning your windows this spring.

Schedule It

Choose to clean your windows on a cloudy day or when your windows will not get direct sunlight exposure. Washing windows when it’s sunny can cause streaks to form on the glass since the cleaning solution will evaporate quickly.

Prepare Your Supplies

Get your supplies ready before starting with the task. Have a soft-bristled brush for dusting, a sponge or squeegee for scrubbing, and a lint-free cloth for wiping and drying. You’ll also need a bucket and large towels.

Use the Right Cleaning Solution

Your window company may have indicated cleaning solutions that you can and can’t use for your windows. Make sure to follow this recommendation to avoid damaging the windows or voiding their warranty. As much as possible, don’t use abrasive cleaning solutions because they can harm your windows.

Clean Window Screens

Window screens can also hold a lot of dust so don’t forget to clean them, too. Screens are usually easy to detach from the window. Once removed, you’ll only need to scrub them thoroughly with a non-abrasive brush and the manufacturer-recommended cleaner.

Washing Your Windows

Place a rag or towel beneath the widow on the sill and the floor when cleaning interior windows to help catch spills. Remember that if you wipe your windows dry horizontally on the inside, you should wipe the outside vertically. Doing this will help prevent streaks.

"Renewal by Anderson is definitely the way to go for replacement windows. A representative will come out to your house to discuss window replacements, their Fibrex windows, and cost. You do not have to do all the windows at the same time. We chose only to do 10 windows at this time. The price quoted is good for a full year. A few days later another Representative will come out to expertly measure all windows you are choosing to replace. These measurements are sent to the Renewal by Anderson Factory, where your replacement windows are made. Soon after your order has been processed an installation crew shows up with your replacement windows. Renewal by Andersen is excellent in keeping the customer informed from the start of the process to the final installation. We had a crew of 5 that took 2 days for 10 windows. They were definitely top-notch and you could immediately tell they had been installing windows for quite some time. They were definitely prepared for any situation that came up during your window replacement. One window had evidence of past termite infestation. The wood had to be replaced before the installation of our new window. I generally keep an infrared space heater in that room because of all the 5 bay windows. After our new windows were installed, WOW no heat loss. The room no longer felt cooler than the rest of the house. The windows look fantastic. The outside screens are virtually invisible. We love our new windows. You won't be disappointed!!"

"Every employee I have met in this company has been very kind and nice to speak with (even when I'm out of town and have to tell them I'm waay out of their zone for promotions lol!) Customizing the front door was fun, and I'm very happy with the end result of a brand new door frame that is sealed well and closes so quietly and smoothly! The frosted glass window panels top to bottom really let in an awesome amount of natural light. The manufacturing process went well with lots of updates along the way, and the salesperson was able to answer every question I had about financing. Can't wait to start upgrading the windows next! As a first time homebuyer I feel very secure in knowing I can call the company and they will make sure their product stays up to their quality standards. They are going to help this 105 year old house stand strong for another 100!"
